Violinist | Teacher | Clinician | Producer

Natalie VanBurkleo-Carbonara is a violinist, teacher, clinician and producer in the Twin Cities. She is on faculty at the Hastings Arts Center, maintains a private studio in Minneapolis and is a private instructor at South High School. Known for her creativity, advocacy, community outreach and ability to bring people together through music, Natalie is the founding director of Summit Music and has been featured in WCCO, Pioneer Press and other publications for community outreach music work focusing on seniors.  She also freelances and manages Arioso Strings and The Proposal Violinist.  

Natalie's diverse background as a performer makes her well equipped as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral player. Her passion is producing and performing outreach concerts for people who may not get to otherwise hear professional concerts but her experience includes work with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Mill City Summer Opera, Chanhassen Dinner Theater, Artistry Theater, Thursday Musical, Minnesota Sinfonia, Minneapolis Pops Orchestra, Exultate, Kantorei, Twin Cities Masters Chorale, The Singers, Music in the Mountains-Durango, CO, Baton Rouge Symphony, Louisiana Sinfonietta, Gulf Coast Symphony, Mobile Symphony, Acadiana Symphony, Duluth Symphony, Mankato Symphony and Rochester Symphony.  Natalie has been a soloist with the Louisiana Sinfonietta and Minnesota Sinfonia (Young Artist Competition Winner- Senior Division). Collaborations with renowned artists include Yo-Yo Ma, Joshua Bell, Itzak Perlman, Midori, Placido Domingo, Regina Carter, Two Cellos and pop artists Michael Bublé, Randy Newman, Regis Philbin, Susan Lucci, Kelly Clarkson and Davy Jones. Natalie has recorded commercial jingles for Ochsner Health, movie soundtrack for Madea's Family Reunion, French singer Dany Brillant's album Histoire d'un amour, NACCUSA composer recordings and collaborations with several singers and bands.

Teaching since 1997. Natalie is dedicated to teaching students to be expressive, confident, leaders in their music making. She has been a guest speaker for the International Society of Bassists and has been a clinician, coach and adjudicator in MN & LA for organizations such as GTCYS, MYS, MMEA All-State Orchestra, Suzuki Association of Minnesota, Augsburg High School Honors Orchestra, Louisiana All-State Orchestra, Louisiana Youth Orchestras, Concerto Competitions at Loyola University and many district solo & ensemble contests.  Natalie is a registered music judge through the Minnesota State High School League as well as the National Federation of High Schools.  She is a member of the Suzuki Association of the Americas and a Music Link Foundation Teacher.

EDUCATION

Natalie's most influential mentors have been Sally O'Reilly, Kevork Mardirossian and Mark Bjork.  She attended Louisiana State University on full scholarship and spent several years the University of MN as well. Her extensive pedagogy study has included courses with Sally O'Reilly, Kevork Mardirossian, Rebecca Henry and Suzuki teacher training -Every Child Can, Suzuki books 1, 3, & 3. She is also certified in the Mark O'Connor violin, viola and orchestra method.
